Interstate carriers with an MCS-150 more than 26 months old, by state (October 2026)
From FMCSA's public company census file, we count active, interstate USDOT records whose last MCS-150 date on file is before 2024-08-01, which is more than 26 months ago. Because the biennial update is due every 24 months, these records are very likely past due. We used 26 months to leave room for timing quirks.
71,318 of 684,675 active interstate records nationwide (10.4%).

Read this before quoting the numbers
- FMCSA has paused enforcement and inactivation for biennial updates due on or after June 1, 2026 (notice), so many carriers in this count face no action right now.
- The public file can lag FMCSA's live records, and many "active" records belong to carriers that have stopped operating without inactivating.
- State = physical address state on file. Intrastate-only carriers are excluded.
