How to file your MCS-150 biennial update in Motus

Since May 19, 2026, FMCSA registration actions, including the biennial update, happen in Motus at motus.dot.gov. Check that the address ends in .dot.gov. FMCSA has warned about fake "Motus" sites.

  1. Sign in with Login.gov. If you used the old FMCSA Portal, use the same email as the company official. Login.gov requires two-factor authentication.
  2. Verify your identity the first time, with a government ID and a phone or webcam.
  3. Complete your user profile.
  4. Link (claim) your existing USDOT number. This imports your company record.
  5. Open the Biennial Update section on your dashboard. It shows your due date and the mileage you last reported.
  6. Certify your business information and company operations, or choose Update to change them.
  7. Enter your latest mileage and mileage year, complete the certification, and submit. Save the confirmation.

The biennial update itself is free. FMCSA's explainer notes that some changes, such as a legal-name change when you hold operating authority, carry a fee, and Motus shows a payment screen if one applies.

Intrastate-only carriers: Motus no longer offers a federal biennial update for you, but your state may require you to update your record.

Questions

Do I need a USDOT PIN?

No. Motus uses Login.gov instead of USDOT PINs.

Can someone else file it for me?

Yes, but you do not have to pay anyone. If you use a service, make sure it says clearly that it is a private company.
