IRP renewal: when apportioned plates expire

The International Registration Plan (IRP) lets interstate carriers register vehicles once in a base state and apportion fees across the states they travel. Each base state sets its own renewal schedule: some use one month for everyone, some stagger by company.

Your renewal month is printed on your cab card. Many states send renewal notices 60–90 days ahead. Enter your renewal month when you sign up and we will remind you.

What missing it can cost

Running on expired apportioned plates can bring citations and trip permits. Fines vary by state.
