When is my MCS-150 biennial update due?

Every company with a USDOT number must update its FMCSA registration (Form MCS-150, MCS-150B or MCS-150C) every 24 months, even if nothing changed.

How to read your USDOT number

Last digit = month. The update is due by the last day of that month: 1 January, 2 February, 3 March, 4 April, 5 May, 6 June, 7 July, 8 August, 9 September, 0 October.

Next-to-last digit = year. Odd digit: file in odd-numbered years. Even digit: file in even-numbered years.

Example: USDOT 1234567 ends in 7, so it is due by July 31. The next-to-last digit is 6 (even), so it is due in 2026, 2028 and so on.

Things to know

What missing it can cost

FMCSA can deactivate your USDOT number (49 CFR 390.19T). Civil penalties for this kind of reporting violation can be up to $1,584 per day, capped at $15,846 (49 CFR 386, Appendix B (a)(1)). FMCSA has temporarily paused inactivations for updates due on or after June 1, 2026, but the update is still required.

Yes. FMCSA requires the biennial update every two years even if your information has not changed.

Filing directly with FMCSA is free. Private services may charge to file it for you.

Can I file early?

Yes. An update filed in the 12 months before your due date satisfies the requirement.
